A nail fungus is one of the most common foot infections. It is caused by a fungus that appears on the moist, warm parts of the foot and is extremely contagious.
This infection starts with the expansion of a fungus on or under the nail which can take 2 different forms a distal subungual onychomycosis (OSD) or a superficial white onychomycosis (OS). OSD is the most common form, which affects the skin under the nail. This can cause the nail to turn yellow or brown brittle and crumbly. It can even fall apart from the toe.
How to prevent nail fungus?
The best way to avoid nail fungus is to regularly monitor your toes for early signs such as discoloration or peeling nails. Wear suitable and comfortable shoes to allow your feet to breathe and take time to dry them properly after a shower or a bath. As toenail fungus is very contagious, avoid common areas such as swimming pools or the gym until the infection is completely cleared up.
To avoid foot problems, it is important to take care of your feet with disposable pedicure kit. Observe them often to anticipate the first signs of a pathology.
